Psilocybin Assisted Therapy
With the passing of the Natural Medicine Health Act of 2022, better known as Prop 122 we’re one step closer to providing psilocybin assisted therapy here in Colorado.
Prop 122 has decriminalized the personal use of psilocybin and will pave the way for creating regulations for licensed healing centers and practitioners to give psilocybin-assisted therapy.
Colorado is now in the process of creating these regulations, expected to be done toward the end of 2024.
Marriage Help Colorado is following this and will keep you updated on any changes. Until then, personal use of psilocybin has been decriminalized.
So what does that mean for you?
For anyone 21 years and older, it’s not a crime to possess, ingest, share, grow, or give a gift of natural substances (like psilocybin). At this time, the sale of these natural substances is not permitted.
For years advocates have been urging the federal government to research the use of psilocybin and other natural, psychedelic substances because there are many promising benefits. Many therapists have been a part of this advocacy because of the healing benefits it shows for:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Substance use disorders
- And many medical conditions
While we wait for psilocybin assisted therapy regulations, there are still ways therapists can help people who decide to use psilocybin for personal use.

How A Therapist Can Help You Make Sense of Your Psilocybin Journey
Many people decide to use psilocybin mushrooms in their personal life.
You may use it to:
- Get a deeper understanding of yourself
- Have a spiritual awakening
- Feel a deeper connection to nature
- Feel happier
- Get clarity about life
- Be able to look within yourself without judgment
- Feel more calm, relaxed
Sometimes, it’s hard to process or find meaning in your journey unless you talk about it. Therapists, like me, can still help with that. Until psilocybin assisted therapy is legal in Colorado here’s what we can do to help.
If you decided to embark on a healing journey through the personal use of psilocybin, we can help you:
- Process your experience by discussing what you’ve learned, and discuss any knowledge or insights you gained during your experience
- Integrate what you learned on your journey into your life. After your journey, we can discuss how you can use the information and insights you gained to improve your life
- Provide harm reduction assistance
Right now, therapists and other practitioners cannot:
- Sell natural substances
- Recommend you use psilocybin for therapy or medical purposes
- Provide psilocybin assisted therapy (until the state finalizes regulations)
Marriage Help Colorado understands the importance a healing journey can have within yourself and your marriage. We can also answer any questions you have about Prop 122 and when psilocybin assisted therapy will be available in Colorado.

Why Psilocybin?
Psilocybin has been used for healing properties for centuries. Many indigenous cultures have used natural substances for mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual healing.
It’s only recently that the United States has started to look at psilocybin and other psychedelics for medical and therapeutic purposes. Right now they are being studied in major institutions like:
- Johns Hopkins
- University of California
- Mount Sinai
- Massachusetts General Hospital
- University of Wisconsin
- New York University
These are just some of the academic institutions doing research on natural substances. Right now there is promising research coming out of these academic institutions – especially with psilocybin. So when psilocybin assisted therapy becomes available in Colorado, it will be under guidance and regulations that are backed by research and science.
